Forever Ago lost hat and Hatless route
Start at the bench in front of Highway Star Diner, not at a later-chapter hat spawn. Epic’s Hatless condition concerns losing Alfred’s hat while napping; a player guide continues to its discovery in the bin area.
Player-reported route
- At the motel / diner stop, sit on the bench in front of the diner and let Alfred nap.
- After waking without the hat, go inside and continue the counter conversation.
- Take Maddy’s request to investigate the mess behind the diner.
- Exit the front door, turn right and right again, then pass the gate and the second gate into bin storage.
- Inspect the missing hat there. The contributor reports the unlock at this point; check your platform achievement list instead of assuming the dog encounter alone was enough.
What this route does not establish
Finding the hat in the same diner area is supported by the player report. A separate item pickup, persistent inventory entry or later-chapter recovery quest is not. Do not substitute an unverified chapter 6 or 9 spawn for the bench-and-gates sequence.
Questions
The dog encounter happened but Hatless did not unlock. What should I check?
The official condition concerns the nap. The cited player sequence begins on the front bench and ends at the bins; simply photographing the dog is not the published condition. After finishing the story, check chapter select before starting over.
